When a baby is born with a structural abnormality in their heart, it is called congenital heart defect (CHD), also referred to as congenital heart disease. CHDs are the most common birth defect in the United States, affecting approximately 1 in every 110 (about 40,000) babies each year. Learn more about CHD.
Finding out your baby will be born with a CHD can be one of the most difficult things a parent will ever have to deal with. Raising a child with a life threatening medical condition that will never go away can create many challenges that can be stressful on the whole family.
